The Tesla Roadster in Pakistan: What One Charge Would Actually Cover

Tesla now rates the new Roadster at more than 300 miles a charge, down from the 620 it claimed in 2017. Measured against real road distances between Pakistani cities, here is which drives that covers, which it does not, and what the same journeys cost in petrol today.

On 15 October 2026 Tesla finally showed the redesigned Roadster, at a SpaceX test site in Texas, and rated every version at more than 300 miles of range, about 480 km. That is a long way down from the 620 miles it promised when the car was first unveiled in 2017. Production is now targeted for 2028. The range is the one figure that means anything to someone driving in Pakistan, so this page does what nobody seems to do with it: measures it against the distances we actually drive.

We hold 435 road distances between 30 Pakistani cities, measured on the real road network on 5 October 2026 rather than estimated, the data behind our road distance table. Measured that way the answer is plain: Karachi to Lahore is 1,218 km, so on the rated figure it needs two charging stops, and only 5 of the 12 familiar drives below fit inside a single charge.

Real Pakistani drives against one rated charge

Karachi to Hyderabad163 km1h 53mRs 4,780Yes

These are the shortest driving routes between city centres, so a motorway driver will see a longer distance on the dashboard and a shorter time. The non-stop column is exactly that: no traffic, no breaks, no prayer stops. Charging stops assume you leave with a full battery and get the full rated 480 km from each charge, which real driving rarely does. The petrol column is a Honda City at 13 km per litre at the official rate of Rs 381.14 a litre, and it recalculates itself every time that rate moves.

The drive everybody pictures

Karachi to Lahore is 1,218 km of road and about 13h 55m of non-stop driving. On 480 km a charge you would need two charging stops before the far end, and even a fast charge is a different kind of break from five minutes at a pump. Even the original 620 mile promise, roughly 1,000 km, would have fallen 218 km short. In a Honda City the petrol alone for that drive is Rs 35,710, and Rs 71,420 there and back.

It is far from the only one. 7 of the 12 drives in the table are beyond a single charge, the longest being Karachi to Islamabad at 1,419 km. And these are only the familiar routes: the longest journey we measure anywhere in the country is Gwadar to Gilgit, 2,255 km.

What it would cover

The short hops are comfortable: Lahore to Multan is 336 km, and a Karachi to Hyderabad run at 163 km would not trouble it at all. Karachi to Sukkur, at 480 km, sits right on the rated figure, which in practice means arriving with almost nothing left or stopping on the way. A weekend in the next city, an interview a couple of hours away, a wedding up the motorway: those fit. The long runs across the country do not, not on one charge.

What this page is not going to tell you

Three things, and the reason is the same each time: we do not have an honest number, and a made-up one is worse than a missing one.

  • What it would cost in rupees. Tesla has announced no purchase price for the new car, only reservation deposits of 50,000 and 250,000 US dollars depending on the version. A rupee figure would also need an exchange rate and an import duty, and we track neither. Any price you see quoted here is somebody's guess with a currency symbol in front of it.
  • What a charge would cost. We read and publish fuel prices, not electricity tariffs, and a domestic connection, a commercial connection and a solar roof are three different answers. The arithmetic is below if you know your own unit rate.
  • Where you would charge it. We have measured nothing about Pakistan's charging network, so we are not going to describe it.

The arithmetic you can do yourself

Petrol per kilometre is the distance divided by your kilometres per litre, times the pump price. At Rs 381.14 a litre that is about Rs 2,930 per 100 km in a Honda City, Rs 2,540 in a Suzuki Mehran, and Rs 760 on a Honda CD 70. For any electric vehicle the same shape of sum works with your own figures: the battery in kilowatt hours, divided by the range you really get, times what you pay per unit. Our fuel cost calculator does the petrol side for any distance and any car, and splits it by the number of people in the vehicle.

Why a supercar does not fix a commute

Here is the part that matters more than the specification. The problem on a Pakistani road at 8am is not that the cars are slow, and it is not only that they burn petrol. It is that almost every one of them is carrying one person. A faster car, an electric car, a car with rocket thrusters: none of them change the number of vehicles needed to move the same number of people, and congestion is a count of vehicles. Four people in one car is a bigger improvement than any change of drivetrain, it is available this morning, and it costs nothing to adopt.

That is the whole of what Shareide does. On the long drives in the table you can take a seat in a car already going instead of making the trip alone, or post your own and let the people travelling the same way pay their share of the petrol. On a daily commute it is the same idea at a smaller scale: a monthly pick and drop with the same driver and the same seats, split between the people in the car. We make the electrification argument properly in electric vehicles and ride sharing.

Frequently asked questions

Is the Tesla Roadster available in Pakistan?

No, and not anywhere else yet either. The redesigned car was shown on 15 October 2026 with production targeted for 2028, and nobody has taken delivery of one. The first Roadster sold in small numbers between 2008 and 2012 and was never offered in this market.

What range does the new Roadster have?

Tesla rates every version at more than 300 miles, about 480 km. When the car was first unveiled in 2017 the claim was 620 miles, alongside 1.9 seconds to 60 mph and a 200,000 dollar base price. The new figures are claims too, made for a car that is not in production.

Would 480 km of range be enough in Pakistan?

For short intercity hops, yes. Of the 12 well known drives in the table above, 5 sit inside one charge and 7 do not, Karachi to Lahore among them. Anything much longer than 480 km of road means stopping to charge on the way.

What does the same drive cost in petrol?

Every row in the table carries the figure for a Honda City, recalculated from the official PSO rate rather than typed in. You can see today's petrol price and every change we have recorded with the date it took effect.

Is an electric vehicle cheaper to run than petrol here?

Per kilometre, usually yes, and by a wide margin on the two and three wheelers where the transition is actually happening. We compare that honestly in electric bike versus a shared seat and in the electric bike scheme guide. What we will not do is put a rupee figure on charging a car nobody here owns.
