School Pick and Drop in Karachi: What Parents Should Ask Before Booking

Most Karachi parents arrange school transport through word of mouth — a neighbour's van, a driver someone's cousin used. It usually works. When it does not, the reason is almost always something nobody checked at the start.

Verify these before anything else

1. The driver's CNIC, checked against the person in front of you. Not a photo of a card sent on WhatsApp — the actual person, the actual card.
2. Who else is in the vehicle. Ask for the full list of children and the route order. You should know who your child sits with and how long they are in the car.
3. The vehicle registration. Match the plate to the papers. A vehicle that is not in the driver's name is not disqualifying, but you should know whose it is.
4. The exact route and timing. Including where your child is dropped when you are not home.
5. A second contact. One phone number is a single point of failure at exactly the wrong moment.

Distance matters less than you would think; what moves the price is how many children share the vehicle and whether the route fits the driver's existing run.

The questions that actually predict problems

"What happens if you are sick?" A driver with no answer has no backup, and you will find out on a morning when it matters.

"What time do you start your first pickup?" If your child is last on a route that starts at 6:00am, they are in the car a long time.

"How many children in the vehicle?" Compare the answer to the number of seats. Overloading is common and normalised, and it is the thing most likely to hurt a child in a crash.

"Can I see the car before we start?" Working seatbelts, doors that open from inside, no missing seats.

Keeping a record

Informal arrangements fall apart around money and blame — who paid for which month, who was late, who cancelled. Arranging the commute through an app means each day is recorded, payments are traceable, and the driver's identity was verified before they ever picked up your child.
